A Toddler Room with Vintage Trucks and an Airplane, Oh My!

My 6-year-old is no longer a toddler but he's still enjoying the room we made for him when he was 3! This was one of my favorite room makeovers. It was even featured on apartment therapy a few years ago. It's a small room so we made the most we could with the space. I love the bold fun colors and especially love decorating with vintage toys that my father gave to my on. A trip to ikea and some browsing pinterest for chalkboard ideas (all post more about that later) made this room a pretty simple one to put together.

Ikea Pax Wardrobe Wall

My favorite part of our new master bedroom addition is definitely the Ikea Pax Wardrobe wall. At first we considered a walk-in closet for the 18X18 room, but ended up going for more floor space by doing one wall with nothing but custom storage space, something this house desperately lacks.  Ikea has a great website where you can build-your wardrobe from their free online software then print out the plans and items needed and take to the store to purchase.

After measuring the space we determined that 5 ikea pax wardrobe frames (39 1/4 X 22 7/8 X 93 1/8") would fit the space, however, we ended up using 3 of those and 4 smaller frames 19 5/5 w frames. We picked the Hemnes doors, komplement shelves and wire baskets. We borrowed a truck and picked and drove the 2 hours to our nearest ikea.

Here's the basic process we used to get that built-in closet look. Photos aren't great with iphone.
