FINISHED PRODUCT! (well almost!)

So it has been a while since I last posted. I've been waiting until we finished the island, and we finally did! We used one of the old left over cabinets for the island. I painted it black, Marko put wheels on it, and Dad hooked us up with the butcher block top, and Voila, we have an island! It has come in great! We also put up our new dining room table, we're still looking for chairs.FINISHED

Before and After

Day 28. Feb, 19, 2006

Today was a long day. I thought we would finish painting, but it took most of the day to wash and put all the kitchen stuff away. Marko took down the old fan in the eat-in area and replaced it with a stronger light. Eventually, we'll put a new fan up, but the light will do for now. I hope to finish the painting early this week, so we can move the dining set into the eat-in kitchen. We also added some shelving for pasta, cereals, cookbooks, m&ms, and etc. I don't have a pantry so the shelves make it nice for things we use everyday.

Before, empty useless wall.

After, wall with shelves.

Eat in Dining Before

Day 27. Feb. 18, 2006

Today was a finish up day for all the major stuff! Tile, done. The sink/faucet, garbage disposal, and dishwasher all work now. Howevever, the garbage disposal did give us some problems. It took a good 2 hours to get it to work, found out it was a problem in the wiring and it had to be rewired. I painted a little and started washing pots and pans that have been sitting out in the dust. Marko did some more work in the eat-in area. There still is a lot of painting to do, but that's about it. Here is a pic of me cooking spaghetti. It was our first "real" meal in the new kitchen.

Day 25. Feb. 16, 2006

We finally have countertops, but not without a minor problem. The opening for the oven is a hair too small, therefore, the oven won't slide in all the way. The countertop guys will have to come out and cut off a little of the countertop to fix the problem. The tile in the eat-in area will be grouted on Friday. The sink faucet, garbage disposal and dishwasher will also be installed. We will hang lighting over the bar area.

The tile installations causes LOTS of dust, that's why in the pictures you see so much dust on the countertops.

Day 24. Feb. 15, 2006

We found out today that our countertops will come in tomorrow morning! Yeah!

Tuesday, February 14, 2006

Day 23, Feb. 14, 2006

Here's what the tile looks like so far. It's a slow process with all that cutting and waiting for it to dry.

Day 22, Feb. 13, 2006

Well, it has been 22 days since we started the project! I hope it's done soon. Tonight I made supper with the George Foreman grill, it was not very fun. As for work accomplished, the eat-in-kitchen floor has been prepped and tile should go down tomorrow. We hope that the countertops come in by the end of the week.

Day 21, Feb. 12, 2006

Today we cleaned up the eat-in kitchen area and moved everything into the old dining room and kitchen area to prep for tile. Marko finished painting the ceiling.

Saturday, February 11, 2006

Day 20. Feb. 11, 2006

No work today. We went shopping for kitchen stuff instead, some shelving, canisters, teapot, and we also bought a table that will need to be restained.

Friday, February 10, 2006

Day 19. Feb. 10, 2006

Some of the appliances went back in today. However, the stove won't work until we have countertops in, it has to be set up for the down draft. The microwave looks a little smaller, we'll be getting a new one soon.

Day 18. Feb 9, 2006

The tile has been grouted in the kitchen, it still needs to be dusted off and cleaned up because of dust.

Wednesday, February 08, 2006

Day 17. Feb. 8, 2006

Wow, seems like we've been without a kitchen for a while now! The kitchen tile is almost done. Tomorrow it will be grouted then on Friday we can move back appliances and have a halfway normal kitchen, without countertops of course!

Day 15, Feb. 6, 2006

No pics today. The kitchen floor was prepped for tile and our cabinets were measured for the countertop. We also did a little painting.

Sunday, February 05, 2006

Day 14. Feb. 5, 2006

Today I painted the new half wall and primed a wall in the kitchen. Marko took the built in out. Tomorrow we will start on the tile and tomorrow night, George, the cabinet guy will come measure for counter tops. It will take 2 weeks for the counter tops and sink to come in and about a week to tile.

Saturday, February 04, 2006

Day 13. Feb. 4, 2006

The hardware is installed! And now I can fill up some of the cabinets. We cleaned out the built-in in the nook, because it will be removed for a bigger dinning area. Were hoping to salvage some of it and use it elsewhere!

Day 12. Feb. 3, 3006

Lower cabinets are installled and the refrigerator cubby is finished. Tomorrow bottom doors and hardware will be installed.

Thursday, February 02, 2006

Day 11. Feb 2, 2006

We are so happy how the cabinets are turning out. The kitchen guy installed the uppers and put back the trim on the ceiling. He placed the lower cabinets and will secure them down tomorrow.

Day 9, Jan. 31, 2006

We painted tonight. Marko worked on the ceiling while I painted the walls green around where the cabinets will go. I'm going to wake up early tomorrow and put a second coat on before work. The kitchen guy will start to put up cabinets tomorrow!!!

Monday, January 30, 2006

Day 8. Jan. 30, 2006

I just love doing dishes in the bathroom sink!

The half wall went up today to hold the bar. The slide in electric range will also go up against it. The wall prep should be done so painting starts tuesday night!

Day 7, Jan. 28, 2006

It has been one whole week since we started this project and so far so good. No major problems and everything seems to be going well.

Today was productive! Marko and I pulled out the remainder of lower cabinets and cleaned the old insulation that fell down the wall. Then we sat on our behinds most of the day and scraped the floor. It took us a good 4 hours to get everything up. The kitchen guy came over around 1 p.m. and spent most of his time in the crawl space hooking up a new water supply for the refrigerator. Our dishwasher had been hooked up wrong by the previous owners, so he fixed that while he was down there. He also did some drywall work where the lower cabinets had been.

Tomorrow we will rest with the kitchen and try to catch up on other stuff around the house that we've put off, like lots of laundry and cleaning :(

I'm wearing a mask because the old insulation was floating in the air.
