So it has been a while since I last posted. I've been waiting until we finished the island, and we finally did! We used one of the old left over cabinets for the island. I painted it black, Marko put wheels on it, and Dad hooked us up with the butcher block top, and Voila, we have an island! It has come in great! We also put up our new dining room table, we're still looking for chairs.FINISHED

Day 28. Feb, 19, 2006
Today was a long day. I thought we would finish painting, but it took most of the day to wash and put all the kitchen stuff away. Marko took down the old fan in the eat-in area and replaced it with a stronger light. Eventually, we'll put a new fan up, but the light will do for now. I hope to finish the painting early this week, so we can move the dining set into the eat-in kitchen. We also added some shelving for pasta, cereals, cookbooks, m&ms, and etc. I don't have a pantry so the shelves make it nice for things we use everyday.
Before, empty useless wall.
After, wall with shelves.
Eat in Dining Before
Eat in Dining After. Obviously still in progress, need to work on fireplace, furniture, crown molding and etc. more painting

Day 27. Feb. 18, 2006
Today was a finish up day for all the major stuff! Tile, done. The sink/faucet, garbage disposal, and dishwasher all work now. Howevever, the garbage disposal did give us some problems. It took a good 2 hours to get it to work, found out it was a problem in the wiring and it had to be rewired. I painted a little and started washing pots and pans that have been sitting out in the dust. Marko did some more work in the eat-in area. There still is a lot of painting to do, but that's about it. Here is a pic of me cooking spaghetti. It was our first "real" meal in the new kitchen.

Day 25. Feb. 16, 2006
We finally have countertops, but not without a minor problem. The opening for the oven is a hair too small, therefore, the oven won't slide in all the way. The countertop guys will have to come out and cut off a little of the countertop to fix the problem. The tile in the eat-in area will be grouted on Friday. The sink faucet, garbage disposal and dishwasher will also be installed. We will hang lighting over the bar area.
The tile installations causes LOTS of dust, that's why in the pictures you see so much dust on the countertops.

Day 22, Feb. 13, 2006
Well, it has been 22 days since we started the project! I hope it's done soon. Tonight I made supper with the George Foreman grill, it was not very fun. As for work accomplished, the eat-in-kitchen floor has been prepped and tile should go down tomorrow. We hope that the countertops come in by the end of the week.

Day 7, Jan. 28, 2006
It has been one whole week since we started this project and so far so good. No major problems and everything seems to be going well.
Today was productive! Marko and I pulled out the remainder of lower cabinets and cleaned the old insulation that fell down the wall. Then we sat on our behinds most of the day and scraped the floor. It took us a good 4 hours to get everything up. The kitchen guy came over around 1 p.m. and spent most of his time in the crawl space hooking up a new water supply for the refrigerator. Our dishwasher had been hooked up wrong by the previous owners, so he fixed that while he was down there. He also did some drywall work where the lower cabinets had been.
Tomorrow we will rest with the kitchen and try to catch up on other stuff around the house that we've put off, like lots of laundry and cleaning :(

I'm wearing a mask because the old insulation was floating in the air.
